Podium finish moves Rowland into Drivers’ Championship lead with Nissan heading up the Manufacturers’ Standings

Nissan Formula E Team wrapped up its second podium of the 2024/25 ABB FIA Formula E World Championship in Round 3 at the first-ever Jeddah E-Prix, with Oliver Rowland clinching second for the squad in a race which featured the debut of Pit Boost.

During qualifying, the Brit once again made the semi-finals of the Duels, lining up third on the grid. Teammate Norman Nato narrowly missed out on the top four in Group B, starting the race from P12.

Under the lights in Saudi Arabia, Rowland quickly moved his way up into second on the opening tour, before taking the lead on Lap 11. Shortly after, he completed his Pit Boost, which the squad executed perfectly to ensure Rowland remained in the lead of the E-Prix. He narrowly missed out on the victory after being forced to conserve energy in the final corners, but still crossed the line in a strong second.

On the other side of the garage, Nato climbed up into the points paying positions, before a drive-through-penalty for a technical infringement hindered the Frenchman’s progress, finishing P20.

The result moves Rowland into the lead in the Drivers’ Championship, with Nissan Formula E Team fourth in the Teams’ Standings. Additionally, with partner team NEOM McLaren Formula E Team also on the podium, Nissan now sits top of the Manufacturers’ Championship.

The action from Jeddah continues tomorrow with qualifying getting underway at 15:20 (UTC+3), with lights out for the race at 20:05.

Tommaso Volpe, managing director and team principal, Nissan Formula E Team: “It’s great to score a podium at the home race of our innovation partner Electromin, and to continue showcasing our performance and fighting at the top, which sees us leading the Drivers’ and Manufacturers’ Standings. Oli drove superbly throughout the race and only narrowly missed out on the win. Unfortunately, on Norman’s side we made a mistake with the tire pressures, meaning he received a drive-through-penalty which ruined his race. Pit Boost provided an additional challenge, but we managed it well and I’m very proud with all the preparation that the team did and how well they executed it. Overall, while we still have a lot of work to do overnight to keep pushing and improving on our weak points, it was very positive to have two Nissan-powered cars on the podium with the NEOM McLaren Formula E Team. We’re happy to achieve this level of performance at a new venue and we’ll now set our focus on securing more points tomorrow with both drivers.”

Oliver Rowland

“I’m pleased to score more valuable points and to pick up a podium, even though it’s never easy to lose the win on the last corner. We just ran low on energy towards the end and had to make sure that I made it to the line to claim those strong points. It was a unique event for Formula E, we were almost flat out the whole race and the field was quite spread, which I enjoyed. It’s great to take the lead of the Drivers’ Championship, but I know that it’s all about delivering consistently which I’ll look to continue doing. We’ve been strong throughout the weekend so far and we’ll look to take this pace into tomorrow and aim for another positive result.”
